The Father of Contemporary A Cappella Is Coming to Helena!
Get ready to lift your voice and sharpen your vocal chops—Grammy-winning producer, arranger, and educator Deke Sharon is coming to Helena, Montana this September! Known worldwide as the musical mastermind behind the Pitch Perfect films, producer of NBC’s The Sing-Off, and arranger for powerhouse groups like Pentatonix and Straight No Chaser, Deke Sharon is bringing his infectious energy and world-class expertise to our vocal community.
Throughout the week, Sharon will be visiting local schools to inspire student singers, culminating in a dynamic series of evening community workshops hosted by the Helena Xpress Singers at the Staggering Ox, an eclectic restaurant on the west side of town. Whether you are a seasoned quartet member, a choral enthusiast, or simply love to sing in the car, these sessions are open to all ages and experience levels.
Evening Community Workshop Lineup (6:30 PM Nightly at Staggering Ox)
- Tuesday, Sept 15: Pitch Perfect Sing-Along Sing favorite arrangements right from the hit movies while enjoying hilarious behind-the-scenes stories directly from the set. Arrangement geared towards treble singers.
- Wednesday, Sept 16: Barbershop Quartet Masterclass A live coaching and demonstration session working hands-on with up to five selected quartets on technique, lock, and performance.
- Thursday, Sept 17: Singing Games, Improvisation & Voicescapes Unleash spontaneous creativity, learn how to build community through "circle songs," and explore vocal soundscaping.
- Friday, Sept 18: Learn Vocal Percussion Discover how to transform your voice into rhythm, groove, and full drum kits—open to all and included free for Youth Festival registrants!
Capping the Week: A Cappella Xpress Youth Festival
The week wraps up on Saturday, September 19, with the full-day A Cappella Xpress Youth Festival, featuring guest clinician Rachel Pack, director of SingUnited Region 13 2026 1st Place Chorus Jet Cities. Young vocalists of all backgrounds will spend the day building confidence, harmony skills, and lasting friendships.
